PORT BLAIR:-
The Capital of Andaman & Nicobar Islands
Port Blair is the capital of the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It is located on the east coast of the South Andaman Island. Port Blair is the gateway to the pristine islands.
Port Blair is also an Island town offering water based activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, sea-cruises, and glimpses of the history and culture of the region. The Aberdeen Bazaar forms the centre of the town. Most of the restaurants and hotels are around this area. The main bus station is just west of the bazaar and the Airport 4 Kms. to the south west. The main passenger dock for ferries-the Phoenix Bay Jetty is 1 Km. to the North West.
HAVELOCK:-
Havelock Island (often just Havelock for short) with an area of some 92 sq.Km is the largest of the islands which comprise Ritchie’s Archipelago, a chain of islands to the east of Great Andaman in the Andaman Islands. The island population is comprised of Bengali settlers. It is one of the few places that the administration of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands union territory of India has permitted and encouraged development of tourism, with a focus on promoting eco-tourism.
Havelock Island avoided much of the devastation which was visited upon most of the shores affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and its resultant tsunami, and there were no documented casualties.
Beach No. 7, better known as “Radha Nagar” Beach, is one of the most popular beaches in Asia. The elephant beach at Havelock is known for rich marine life, especially the corals.Beach No. 5 is famous beach for Israeli tourists. few Israyeli citizens also running business over there.
BARATANG:-
Inaccessible to many travellers and many people of the Andaman Islands, Baratang once used to be one of most feared destination. Attacks by the native Jarawa Tribes were common allowing nobody to ponder around there place. The Jarawa Tribe Reserve, today stands as a reserve for the Jarawa Tribes members. Efforts were made by the Government to help the native tribes and to gain trust.
The Baratang island trip brings forward the tropical side of the Andaman islands. Dense Forest, Tribes, Mangroves, Dongi rides, beaches, birds , caves and trekking. Well, Baratang has all of these to offer. Avail a trip to this island and become a part of the tropical side of the Andaman Islands.
ROSS ISLANDS:-
Ross Island is a beautiful destination to visit when in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This is a lovely place to tour if you want to make a day out it by traversing for hours amidst its historical importance. Ross Island was the headquarters of the British colony and today it houses its ruins of the buildings that were built during the British time.
The Islands century old trees have captured few important landmarks by its wild vines, roots, and trunks like the Officers Quarters and rundown Church of the British times. Besides, some must visit attractions in Ross Island are like the Chief Commissioner’s house, the Cathedral, and Graveyard of the Britishers. Today, if you visit the Island you will see the state of the art light and sound show commissioned by the tourism department to keep alive the vibes of the past. However, when in Ross Island, you are bound to get a great panoramic view of the nearby Island and get a chance to see a number of animals like peacocks, deers and ducks amidst the cool breeze and the amazing view of the sea.
MOUNT HARRIET:-
Mount Harriet is the highest peak in the South Andaman archipelago and is named after Harriet Tytler, the second wife of Robert Christopher Tytler, a British soldier, naturalist and photographer, who was appointed officiating Superintendent of the Convict Settlement at Port Blair in the Andamans from April 1862 to February 1864. Mount Harriet, stationed at 55 km by road and 15 km by ferry from Port Blair. Its natural charm and beauty attracts a lot of visitors. The natural flora and fauna could not be matched. The greenery everywhere provides you immense feel that you are in a deep forest. One can have a glimpse of different kinds of birds from this point. From the top of the peak, one can get a magnificent view of the Port Blair city, the Ross Island and the Havelock Island.
At Mount Harriet, there is a Forest Guest House where tourists can take rest and refresh themselves. One can visit Madhuban from Mount Harriet by trekking through the jungle approximately covering 16 Kms. Exotic endemic birds, butterflies are interesting sights of this wilderness trek. Incidentally, the three points i.e. Mount Harriet and North Bay on the north of Port Blair and Ross Island on the east of Port Blair is the natural gateway for ships entering to berth at the Haddo and Chatham Wharf and Phoenix Bay Jetty.
WANDOR & CHIDIYATAPU:-
Wandoor beach is one of the popular beaches of Andaman that lies at a distance of about 25 kms in the east of Port Blair. It is a pictorial beach and a major tourist attraction that grab visitor’s attention and interest. This beautiful beach is ideal for witnessing the colourful corals and enjoying swimming. With calm and clean blue water, the beach offer soothing ambience to chill and spend quality time. There are smartly constructed changing rooms and benches built for the convenience of the visitors.
As located near Port Blair, Wandoor beach is easily accessible by the tourists visiting Andaman. If you are an adventure lover, then you can take a short trek to natural caves formed over the passage of time by high tides which enclose the beach.
Chidia tapu is 30 KM from main city; this place is famous for sunset view and for bird watching. Varieties of birds visit this place. The road passes through forest and small hills up to the Chidia tapu. From Port Blair, the journey would take around one hour to reach Chidia tapu. If you are interested to watch the sunset it is advisable to take an afternoon trip to this place. Remains of trees uprooted during Tsunami in 2004 are still present near the beach. There is no restaurant or food stall available inside the park; however, small hotels are present at the entrance. While traveling to this place sea will be to your left side. On your way you would pass through the Kalapathar, a trail of black rocks and beach. Stop here to take some pictures and proceed to Chidia Tapu.
